Youngs Premium 40 Pint Ale Kit - American India Pale Ale

B2B-1048

Regular price £23.95

Nothing excites the craft beer drinker more than an IPA, almost the flagship beer of the American Craft beer Revolution. This beer is far different from the stuffy sub 4% beers found in some back street pubs with more similarities to the traditional IPA’s brewed in the 18th century. These beers were brewed to slake the thirst of the British troops garrisoned in India and were heavily hopped and relatively high in alcohol to survive the arduous journey round the southern tip of South Africa.

These days American IPA’s are brewed to be drunk fresh and use obscene amounts of fragrant American hops that give them their unique pine, fruit salad and floral character. We’ve used three of the most popular and heavily sought after hops Simcoe, Centennial and Chinook. Chinook and Centennial are classic American hops, beautiful and fragrant they exude grapefruit and floral character, the Simcoe tempers this fruit character with its more savoury pine resin

character.  With our US West Coast ale yeast strain sourced from an American craft brewery giving such a clean fermentation profile these hops shine through explosively giving you a fantastic IPA to brew at home that will rival the world’s best!

Our IPA pours like a true IPA, pale gold with a fluffy white head, the aroma of this beer hits you immediately, intense pine and grapefruit character a side of tropical fruit salad.

On the palate this beer has just enough malt to hold the crazy amounts of hops we’ve put in it giving you a riot of flavours tending toward the pine resin from the Simcoe, bitterness is full on refreshing the palate and inviting another sip.

Look: Pours pale gold, fluffy white head.

Aroma: Wonderful aroma of tropical and citrus fruits, a fantastic combination of fresh fruit, mango and grapefruit.

Flavour: Great balance between malt and hops, very fruity with great overtones of pine needles, with slight herbal character with a full and lingering dry bitter flavour.

Makes 40 pints at approx. 6.5% ABV. Each kit comes with it's own, yeast, sugar, priming sugar and malt extract so only water needed.

This is an ingredients only kit – equipment is not included.

Best IPA

I have brewed this IPA a number of times and tried others. In my opinion nothing has bettered this IPA beer. I substitute sugar for the same amount of spray malt, light hoppy. Treat the water with Harris pure brew and away I go. Barrelled or bottled, superb.

Very simple kit to brew but not the best in my view

I enjoyed brewing and drinking this amber coloured IPA. I found the end product similar to Mangrove Jacks American IPA which I brewed just before this one. It’s a very simple kit to brew as it comes with everything you need, so if you are new to home brewing it is ideal. As much as I enjoyed it, I preferred the Mangrove Jacks kit because I found the mouthfeel better and the hop flavour more distinct. However, I should point out that I added 500g of Munton’s hopped Light malt extract and an additional kilogram of brewing sugar to the Mangrove Jack kit which undoubtedly helped to achieve this. My OG for this kit was 1.063 and FG 1.012. With an extra 0.3% added during the conditioning process it came out just shy of 7% ABV which, as you can imagine, is pretty strong!
