Mangrove Jacks Craft Series 40 Pints Pink Grapefruit IPA

Regular price £22.95
24 in stock

Inspired by Brew Dog’s Elvis Juice Citrus IPA, this contains great citrus hop notes combined with grapefruit aroma to give an abundance of fruit on the nose. Sharp and tangy, the grapefruit complements and enhances the citrus character of the hops, making it refreshing, clean and crisp on the palate.

Please note this is an ingredients only kit - no equipment is included.

Mangrove Jacks Craft Series 40 Pints Pink Grapefruit IPA

Tried this kit twice now and both have been fantastic! It is just like Elvis Juice (or Lidl’s Twisted Knots) and doesn’t have any hint of home brew tang. I’d recommend using the Mangrove Jacks LME as it really does make a difference.
This , and the Mangrove Jacks Juicy IPA are the best kits I’ve had. Might be a few quid more than over kits but we’ll worth it.

So bitter

Seen a lot of good reviews about this and also some not so good. Thought i would try it but i'm in the bad review camp. The lingering bitterness is bordering on awful. I understood from other reviews that it wasn't going to taste like Elvis Juice and that is fine, but the aftertaste is not nice. It was 3 weeks before i tried my first bottle so it wasn't too early. I've done about 12 kits now and this has to be my least favourite. Gutted as i was really looking forward to it.

Made me question doing all-grain brewing!

Is the Mangrove Jack's Pink Grapefruit IPA kit good? Yes. Best result I've had from a kit. Almost everyone who tried it gave it 8/10. Mostly due to its quality and partly because I brewed it with no tickling, prodding, sampling and introducing more and more oxidation which I'm very guilty of.

And it had ZERO HOMEBREW TWANG which is wow.

* Me : 8/10 on most tests - after a month the hops lost a bit of brightness but when I degassed it a bit the flavour changed and it became really nice again.
* Sam : 8/10 in a blind test where I didn't tell him that it was a kit or what it was meant to taste like.
* Rob : 5/10 because it tasted like fizzy soap - I'd just washed a glass and not rinsed it and the bottle was one I'd overcarbed - ooops, the error bars on this result are large.
* Jen : 7.5/10 cold out of the fridge, 8/10 as it warmed and developed more flavour.
* Dave : A like out of like / don't like - scores are too granular for him.
* Mike : A big Brewdog fan. He liked it but not as much as real Elvis Juice.
* HooHoo : urghhh. She gave it a 3/10. She gave the best beer she's ever had, my Doom Bar all grain 4/10. All beer tastes like fag-ash to her.

My confidence in kits is back after having mediocre results with a lot of the budget single can kits. I eventually improved the kits with dry hopping and partial mashing but this was good straight up.

Best Mangrove Jacks kit

I love this kit. I have brewed half a dozen of these now. I add 3 litres of pure pineapple juice to it (16 litres water + 3 litres of pineapple juice to get 19 litres total). I also use the Mangrove Jacks liquid malt extract. This gives an OG of 1.062 and an FG of around 1.012 (6.5% ABV in other words!). The Mangrove Jacks liquid malt extract helps it to clear sooner and leaves almost zero sediment in the bottom of the bottle. After 2 weeks it is clear although I always leave these in the bottle for 5 weeks before drinking because at this stage it simply tastes much better. By this time it is crystal. clear, too. I also have developed my own yeast re-hydration method which gets it fermenting briskly after 10 hours. I ferment it for 2 weeks, adding the hops after 10 days. It really is superb.
